Space Available is launching a series of NFTs in an effort to remove waste plastics from nature.
PLASTIC PEOPLE NFT's
One part of the Plastic People case study project exhibited at the Museum of Space Available (MoSA) in July, the NFT series is designed to bring further attention to the global plastic crisis and raise funds for a new Space Available plastic recycling workshop in Bali, Indonesia.
The first release comprises 8 1/1 non-generative Plastic People NFT characters. Owners of these artworks will become part of the Space Available Web 3.0 community, enjoying access to members-only merchandise, special events and offers.
Each NFT is designed to create real-world change. So, as well as kickstarting funds for the SA recycling centre, each digital artwork purchase also includes a one-of-a-kind Plastic People sculpture made from waste plastics collected in Indonesia and designed by Space Available Studio.
Space Available’s ‘Plastic People’ NFTs will be shared via a series of global pop-ups, beginning at Ansh46 in Rotterdam on 28 October, 2022, followed by Ansh46 Eindhoven on 29 October, 2022, as part of Dutch Design Week. Locations in Tokyo and London will be announced in the weeks to come. A unique NFT will be released for each international location.
ABOUT PLASTIC PEOPLE
Plastic People is a Space Available art project exploring the story of synthetic plastics, their influence on consumer culture, the planet and our health, and how the design and art industries can help create circular systems that challenge destructive linear thinking. It is the first project to be exhibited at the Museum of Space Available (MoSa).
Spanning multiple physical- and digital-world elements such as NFTs, physical sculptures, Space Available product installations and a case study exhibit, Plastic People dives into the gifts and curses of plastic as a material over the decades in an effort to create awareness around modern waste culture and the impacts of plastic on human health.
This project is about making space for nature. All of the profits will go towards the creation of Space Available’s new recycling facility in Bali, Indonesia.
Plastic People is drawn from Space Available’s Radical Plastics case study which is published at spaceavailable.tv.
