Paul&Albert is a Dutch design duo. They work at the intersection of art and design. During Dutch Design Week, they will present the robot choir CH01R. The choir sings a song about technological development, evolution, dependency, destruction, and true love.
About CH01R
CH01R is an installation where art, technology, and emotion merge. A choir of robots, each designed as a unique character that seems to have emerged from the aftermath of our civilization. As if they found our sheet music, imitated us, and then internalized it, they sing with voices that are both human and artificial.
Choreography of light
CH01R is not just a choir; it is a collective of individual robots, each with its own computer and partially AI-generated sounds. They are constantly connected, allowing them to perform their song in perfect sync. As they sing, they also translate the sound into light, resulting in a choreography of light that supports and enhances the music. The transparent, cube-shaped 'heads' of the robots reveal both the light and the technology used, creating an image of the symbiosis between human and machine.
Composition
The musical piece tells a story about the rise of the convenience that computers brought us, but also about the gradual shift in which we as humanity begin to lose control and technology starts to take over our lives. Yet, true love remains the only thing that is exclusively human. The robot choir gives voice to this story and invites you to listen, feel, and reflect on the complex relationship between human and machine.
