Last December, What if Lab called on designers to help think about the circular train station of the future. This led to 42 different visions of which ten were eventually selected for the next step: a ten-week Masterclass to develop the ideas into full concepts. Divided over the following three themes, the studios will each start to conceptualise their vision: Sustainable materials, Circular products and Systems and strategies. Below you will find the selected design studios:
- Sustainable Materials: Atelier NL, Studio Tjeerd Veenhoven and Welling Architects
- Circular Products: Scape Agency BV, Studio Mixtura and Tom van Soest
- Systems and Strategies: de Architekten Cie., Bygg Architecture & Design, Rombout Frieling Lab and Studio RAP
This April, the design studios will present their concepts to a jury. Eventually one studio per theme will be selected and given the opportunity to further develop their vision into a final design. By the end of May it will be clear which designs will be on show at Dutch Design Week 2020.
What if Lab: The Circular Train Station is a collaboration of What if Lab, ProRail, NS Stations and Bureau Spoorbouwmeester.
